Diablo 5, officially titled Diablo V, was revealed by Blizzard at BlizzCon in September 2026 and is scheduled for the second quarter of 2029. The game is still in the early stages of development.
The reveal came early in development, but Blizzard has already outlined the foundations of the new game. Sanctuary has fallen, the heroes of the past failed, and this time Diablo won. The Lord of Terror will be present from the beginning of the story as the player travels through a changing world alongside a caravan of survivors.
Blizzard introduced the Demon Hunter, Monk, and Plague Knight classes, along with plans for a procedural world and itemization inspired by Diablo II. Item sets, runes, and runewords are part of the announced direction, but the details of these systems may still change.
There is still a lot Blizzard has not revealed. Platforms, pricing, PC requirements, beta plans, and many of the progression systems remain unconfirmed.
This page brings together everything we know about Diablo 5 so far and will be updated as new official information is released.

Has Diablo 5 officially been announced?
Yes. Diablo V was officially announced on September 12, 2026, during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony.
Blizzard debuted a teaser for the game and, that same day, held the Diablo V: Forging the Next Era panel, where the team discussed the story, world, classes, and some of the systems planned for the next chapter in the series.
The reveal happened while Diablo V was still in the early stages of development. That matters because not everything shown should be treated as a completely finalized system.
Blizzard itself describes several of the current ideas as still in development and has said it plans to involve the community throughout the game’s production.
When will Diablo 5 be released?
Diablo 5’s official release target is the second quarter of 2029, according to Blizzard’s BlizzCon recap.
That means, if the current schedule holds, the game is planned to launch sometime between April and June 2029.
The English announcement uses “Spring 2029,” referring to spring in the Northern Hemisphere; the Brazilian page specifies the second quarter of 2029. These are not announcements of two different regional launches.
No specific day or month has been announced so far.
Because Diablo V is still early in development, the window should be treated as Blizzard’s current target rather than a firm release date.
What platforms will Diablo 5 be on?
Blizzard has not officially announced Diablo 5’s platforms yet.
At the moment, the official reveal materials do not list PC or console versions. The official Diablo V website does not specify any platforms either.
So while it may be natural to expect versions for some of the platforms where the franchise is already available, none should be considered confirmed until Blizzard makes an announcement.
What is Diablo 5’s story?
The central narrative premise of Diablo V is already established: the battle was lost before the game even begins.

Diablo has conquered Sanctuary and is using the world as a stepping stone in his campaign against the High Heavens. From his throne in Hesperia, the Lord of Terror uses Sanctuary’s inhabitants and souls as weapons in the Eternal Conflict.
That also changes Diablo’s own role in the story.
He will not simply be a distant threat waiting for the final hours of the campaign. According to Blizzard, his presence will be felt from the beginning and will directly influence the story, the world, and the player’s journey.
The presentation places the new chapter approximately 100 years after Diablo IV. The defining premise of the campaign is Diablo’s already-established rule over Sanctuary; the official summary does not specify how many years have passed since the conquest.
Who is the protagonist of Diablo 5?
Players will take on the role of the Heir of Hesperia.
The character begins the journey fleeing through the ruins of the former kingdom, which has been transformed into an outpost of Hell.
Few humans escaped Diablo’s rule. Some surrendered, others joined his cults, and some were corrupted into beings known as Dread Commanders, powerful enough to rival forces from Hell itself.
The protagonist also shares a mysterious connection with Diablo.
Blizzard has not yet explained the origin of that bond, but has confirmed that it makes the Heir of Hesperia a threat to the Lord of Terror while also leaving the character especially vulnerable to his influence.
Is Diablo the main villain?
Everything revealed so far places Diablo at the center of Diablo V.
Blizzard wants the Lord of Terror to remain present throughout the adventure instead of simply appearing as a threat at the end of the campaign.
What we still do not know is how the confrontation with Diablo will be structured or whether he will necessarily be the game’s final boss. Blizzard has not revealed that information.
Which classes are confirmed for Diablo 5?
Three classes have officially been revealed for Diablo V so far.

Demon Hunter
The Demon Hunter returns with the class’s signature dual crossbows.
Blizzard’s initial description presents a mobile class capable of striking from the shadows and quickly crossing the battlefield while hunting the forces of Hell.
Monk
The Monk is also returning.
Its playstyle remains focused on close-range martial combat, using fists and sacred powers to fight enemies.
Plague Knight
The Plague Knight is the first completely new class announced for Diablo V.
Blizzard describes the character as a manifestation of death, spreading disease and pestilence across the battlefield and consuming that corruption to gain power.
During the panel, Joe Shely announced the intention to offer more classes than before in the series. The final number, the remaining classes, and their abilities have not yet been detailed.
Demon Hunter, Monk, and Plague Knight are therefore only part of the roster.
What will Diablo 5 gameplay be like?
There is not yet a full gameplay demonstration of Diablo V.
The initial material presented by Blizzard consists mainly of a teaser, concept art, and developer explanations about the direction the game is taking.
The presentation outlines a design direction still in development: action RPG combat, characters shaped by gear and skill choices, and a world that changes between visits. The way procedural regions work is covered in the section on the world below.
Builds should play a major role in combat
On September 29, 2026, Joe Shely publicly discussed the combat philosophy in a statement reported by PC Gamer from his post on X. That statement is separate from the interviews conducted at BlizzCon.
According to him, Diablo V will still feature mechanics that depend on player execution during combat, but the overall focus will place more weight on planning, character investment, and build construction.
A build is the combination of skills, gear, and other choices that determines how a character works. Shely argued that the right build should allow players to overcome challenges. The role of planning is explored further in ZAUS.GG’s feature on how ARPGs work and have evolved.
That does not mean Diablo V will have the same combat as Diablo II or eliminate Diablo IV’s action mechanics.
So far, Blizzard has described a design direction rather than presenting the complete combat system.
Level scaling is expected to change
The way enemy strength scales alongside player progression is also being reconsidered.
In the group interview published by PC Gamer on September 22, Joe Shely acknowledged that enemies automatically becoming stronger can weaken the feeling of character progression. Level scaling—adjusting enemy strength as the player progresses—still had no publicly detailed implementation.
The director said Diablo V is expected to take a different approach from Diablo IV in this area.
Exactly how this will work has not yet been announced.
Will Diablo 5 have multiplayer?
Yes.
In the group interview published by PC Gamer on September 14, Joe Shely confirmed the plan to let players play solo or with friends.
Blizzard has not yet detailed how multiplayer will be structured, how many players can form a party, whether there will be a shared world along the lines of Diablo IV, or which cross-play features will be available.
How will itemization work in Diablo 5?
Blizzard is using Diablo II as one of the main references for Diablo V’s itemization.
The team’s stated goal is to create gear that is easy to understand, has an identity of its own, and remains interesting to hunt even after hundreds of hours.
One of the most noticeable changes is the inventory itself.
In Diablo V, gear will not all occupy a single standardized space as it does in Diablo IV. The game is returning to a grid-based system where an item’s size determines how much inventory space it occupies.
Large weapons, armor, and other equipment may take up several cells, while smaller items such as rings use less space. This is a familiar structure from classic games in the franchise, such as Diablo and Diablo II, as well as ARPGs like Path of Exile.

The approach reinforces the visual identity of gear and makes organizing the backpack part of the player’s decisions.
The equipment screen shown by Blizzard also closely resembles Diablo II’s classic layout, with slots arranged around the character. In the Diablo V concept, however, elements such as rings and the amulet have been rearranged compared with Diablo II’s layout.
That comparison comes with an important caveat. Blizzard itself identified the interface as in-development and non-final content, so slot placement and other details may still change before release.
The concept also shows the belt as an equipment slot; its presence in the preliminary interface does not, by itself, explain all the rules governing that item.
The team also presented an approach to progression in which items start relatively simple and become more complex as the player advances, following a philosophy inspired by Diablo II.
Attribute requirements may return
Blizzard is experimenting with attribute requirements on gear.
That wording matters: the system is being tested and should not be treated as a finalized mechanic at this point.
If it remains in the game, the idea would bring Diablo V’s itemization even closer to Diablo II, where certain pieces of gear require minimum attribute values before they can be used.
Item sets are returning
Traditional item sets are also returning in Diablo V.
Blizzard has not yet detailed how many pieces will make up each set, their bonuses, or their importance in the advanced activities after the campaign: the endgame.
Will Diablo 5 have runes and runewords?
Yes. Runes and runewords have been confirmed for Diablo V.
Blizzard says it is developing a deeper crafting system, also drawing on work done for Lord of Hatred, but using runes and runewords in the style of Diablo II.
That confirms the return of the concept, but does not yet explain exactly how the implementation will work.
We do not know how many runes there will be, how they will be obtained, which combinations will be available, what gear will accept runewords, or whether the rules will be identical to Diablo II’s.
The return of runes is confirmed; the details of the system are not.
Diablo 5’s world will change between visits
The plan is to use procedural generation in both dungeons and outdoor areas: the game’s rules rearrange elements of the environment instead of keeping all the geography identical between visits.
Diablo and his Dread Commanders are physically reshaping Sanctuary, and Blizzard will use that narrative concept to justify changes to the environment itself.

Terrain, points of interest, enemies, and rewards may vary as the player returns to regions.
During the BlizzCon panel, the team explained that Dread Commanders can also leave their own marks on areas under their influence, changing the appearance and condition of parts of the world.
The goal is to restore discovery: a familiar region may have a different layout when you return. This differs from the largely fixed geography of Diablo IV’s open world. The artwork above illustrates the visual direction of the corruption; a static image does not demonstrate how the generation works technically.
The caravan will replace the traditional role of towns
In Diablo V, survival will no longer be centered on the towns and strongholds that normally serve as safe hubs during the adventure.
Players will build a caravan of survivors that travels with them across Sanctuary.

These characters may serve as merchants and companions, but Blizzard wants them to be more than simple walking menus.
The caravan will grow throughout the journey, bringing together characters with stories of their own.
Examples revealed so far include a former member of the Sisters of the Sightless Eye and even an abandoned Treasure Goblin, searching for a new purpose in a world where greed has lost some of its meaning.
During the panel, the team also explained that the caravan will be the main source of the adventure’s side content: side quests will relate to the stories of the survivors who join the player.
Diablo 5 vs. Diablo 4: What is changing?
The comparison below summarizes the vision presented for Diablo V, not an assessment of a finished game.
| Aspect | Diablo IV | Announced direction for Diablo V |
|---|---|---|
| World | Largely fixed outdoor geography | Procedural outdoor regions and dungeons |
| Support during the journey | Towns and strongholds as hubs | Mobile caravan of survivors |
| Equipment | Standardized inventory spaces | Items of different sizes on a grid; systems still in development |
| Combat and progression | Reference used by the team when discussing changes | Greater emphasis on build planning; scaling not yet detailed |
| Story | Sanctuary threatened by demonic forces | Sanctuary already conquered by Diablo |
Sets, runes, and crafting were covered in the previous sections. Endgame, seasons, skills, and complete progression systems have not yet been detailed enough for a definitive comparison.
Does Diablo 5 have a trailer?
Yes.
Blizzard released the first official Diablo V teaser on September 12, 2026, alongside the BlizzCon announcement.
The video establishes the franchise’s next chapter and confirms Diablo’s return, but does not present a traditional gameplay demonstration.
In addition to the teaser, the main official material available is the Diablo V: Forging the Next Era panel, where the team detailed its initial vision for the project.
As new trailers, gameplay videos, and presentations are released, they will be added to this page.
What do we still not know about Diablo 5?
The announcements confirm the project’s existence and initial direction. The following points have not yet been announced or publicly detailed:
- Release and access: platforms, exact date, price, editions, preorders, PC requirements, beta, and other public tests.
- Characters and progression: full roster, skill trees, level cap, and final scaling system.
- Activities and equipment: endgame, trading, complete crafting rules, and how runes and runewords are obtained and combined.
- Connectivity: party size, shared world, offline play, cross-play (playing across platforms), and cross-progression (carrying progress between them).
- Post-launch support: seasons, monetization, and complete plans for additional content.
None of these gaps should be filled with rumors, leaks, or assumptions based on systems from previous games.
When will we learn more about Diablo 5?
Blizzard has already outlined an initial plan for discussing development.
Starting in 2027, the company intends to publish regular updates showing the project’s progress, the ideas guiding development, and systems as they take shape.
The team has also said that the early reveal is part of a strategy of dialogue with the community.
The goal is to show Diablo V while it is still being created, observe players’ reactions, and use some of that feedback to inform future decisions.
That means several elements described today may be expanded, changed, or even abandoned before release.
For now, the big picture is clear: Diablo V is officially in development, is planned for the second quarter of 2029, and begins in a Sanctuary where Diablo has already won.
The rest of that story is still being built.
